Movie Review - Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic

Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic (A Little Love, A Little Magic) - 7/10 - Romantic Comedy - starring Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Amisha Patel, Rishi Kapoor and four kids - Akshat Chopra (biggest boy), Shriya Sharma (girl from panchvi pass), Rachit Sidana (sardar kid) and Ayushi Berman (smallest girl).

Ordinarily, I would never go to watch a Saif 'boring' Ali Khan or Rani 'irritating' Mukherjee movie in the cinema hall (unless Akshaye Khanna or Salman were also in it), but my boyfriend was really looking forward to this movie and not wanting to disappoint him, I decided to give it a try. Also, the reviews gave out that Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic was not all that bad.

We went to Fun Cinemas, Moti Nagar located in the real small TDI Mall, a short walk from the Moti Nagar Metro Station in West Delhi. Located on the second floor, the movie hall showing Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic was house full, packed mostly with families and kids.

Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic is about a rich businessman (Saif Ali Khan) who is ordered by a law court to take care of four kids he orphaned in a car accident. The kids hate him and want revenge. Rani Mukherjee plays an angel sent by God (Rishi Kapoor) to help him take care of the kids, while Amisha Patel is his brainless girlfriend. Saif falls in love with Rani. Anyway.... all ends well, with 'God' allowing his angel to stay on earth happily with Saif and the four kids as a family.

The casting was good. The children were all great actors and I can't think of anyone to play the part of a boring, expressionless, feelingless rich guy better than Saif Ali Khan. The sets and locales (New Delhi and Los Angeles) were colorful and different from the places you usually get to watch in Bollywood flicks. Direction and screenplay was good, could not find many holes in the film, other than the occasional cinematic extravagance. Simple stuff, no melodrama. I recognized someone I knew professionally, who was playing a bit part in the movie and had a real good laugh. The rest of the movie was funny too and I had a fun time watching Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic.

Have you watched Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic? How would you rate it??

  1. The box-office has given the 'thumbs-down' to the movie, I hear.

BTW, 'Sardar Kid' can be better phrased as 'Sikh Kid', I believe.
