Hi everybody, I am back with some movie reviews after another three weeks of exile due to my real faulty VSNL Tata Indicom Internet Connection and my busted LAN Card. Umrao Jaan, Zindagi Rocks, Dor and Apna Sapna Money Money are the latest movies which I watched over the weekend and this is how I rated them.
Umrao Jaan - 3/10 - Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan, Suniel Shetty - this movie is about the sad love story of Ameeran, a beautiful courtesan of Lucknow. The story of Umrao Jaan was good, but the acting of all three central characters totally sucked. Though Aishwarya looks beautiful, she has always been a stiff ungraceful dancer and was wrongly cast as the courtesan 'Umrao Jaan'. The music though was great.
Zindaggi Rocks - 2/10 - (life rocks) Shiney Ahuja and Sushmita Sen - Zindagi Rocks is about a rockstar who sacrifices her life and donates her heart so that her sick adopted son can live. A noble thought except, Sushmita Sen is looking and acting like an aging crazy lesbian. Shiney Ahuja is the only silver lining in this other wise lack lustre film. He is well cast as a 'husband material' doctor and acts well. The songs are forgetful except for the song where Shiney is sitting in a bathtub in a white suit.
Dor - 7/10 - Ayesha Takia, Shreyas Talpade and Gul Panag. Awesome screenplay - good movie which tackles three social issues at a go - treatment of widows, death penalty and women's liberation. 'Dor' is the story of two women - Meera a widow in the deserts of Rajasthan and Zeenat a lady from the mountains of Himachal Pradesh. Zeenat's husband is sentenced to death for the murder of Meera's husband and Zeenat goes to Rajasthan to convince Ayesha to sign a pardon letter to prevent him from hanging. The only irritating part was Nagesh Kuknoor - no idea why he keeps putting himself onscreen in every movie he directs (probably an ego issue) - it just spoils the show.
Apna Sapna Money Money - 1/10 - Ritesh Deshmukh, Shreyas Talpade, Koena Mitra, Anupam Kher - a totally crappy 'bakwaas' movie, Apna Sapna Money Money is a story about a chase for a bag which contains a shoe with diamonds worth billions packed in its heel. Ritesh is dressed in drag almost throughout the film and actually looks like a woman. A truly confusing movie with cheap jokes, situations and lousy acting.Well this is what I thought of Umrao Jaan, Zindagi Rocks, Dor and Apna Sapna Money Money. Did you see these movies ?
I haven't seen any of the movies yet, but I completely agree with you about Aishwarya Rai.
