Apples - Painting By Cyberkitty

'Apples' - Painting By Cyberkitty

I heard that painting is a good relaxation technique, so I thought I'd try my hand at something I used to win prizes at years ago. I took out my ancient box of Camel watercolours, a few unused makeup brushes and an A4 sheet of paper from my printer and got to work. Here is the result -

'Apples' - 2007

We are born believing. A man bears beliefs as a tree bears apples.” Ralph Waldo Emerson. (American poet and writer)

Its been almost ten years since I last put paint to paper. I did feel calm and peaceful while working with the brush and hope to try it again next weekend too.

Do you have a weekend hobby ?

Tips On Dealing With A Psycho Stalker

Tips On Dealing With A Psycho Stalker

Recently, a 'sadak chaap mawali' (street toughie) took it upon himself to follow me around on my way to office. Even though I have experienced this sort of incident numerous times, starting from the time I was in 7th grade, I couldn't help feeling real scared all over again. Here is a write up of the incident, the advice I received from my friends and my guidance to other women who find themselves in similar situations.

Day 1 - As I was walking to work, I noticed this guy staring at me and trying to keep up with my hurried pace. Soon, I felt a tug on my arm. Turning around I found myself looking into the leering face of a short, skinny youth. Since, I've come across his type many times over, I told him to 'Walk Ahead' (Aage Chal).

Sadly, I had reached office quite late and there were no other office goers walking on the deserted path ahead of me. I thought it best to ignore him and walked on ahead. He kept asking me the time and saying things in a local dialect which I could not understand. I told him to go away as I walked into my office building. Such 'stalkers' are usually not seen in the same place twice.

Later, I asked my friends for advice on how to tackle such a 'stalker'. This is what I got -

- Ignore him completely, he will get bored and walk off.

- Carry pepper spray or chilli powder. If there is no one around, use it and run away immediately.

- Don't try to lose the stalker by going down empty paths, you'll get in even more trouble.

- Make friends or walk alongside other ladies, even if you don't know them. Make sure there are other people around you.

- Tell people around you about his deeds. You may feel a bit embarrassed but it is better than keeping silent. You are safer if a group of people knows.

- Say your prayers. It works to turn luck in your favour. You will be helped by the most unlikely of strangers or the psycho will get distracted by something and leave.

- Shout so that everyone looks, but don't use any foul language. Don't say mean things.

- Make a crying face, act helpless to the crowd - so that other guys come to your defence.

- Keep a straight face, don't look scared or make silly expressions.

- Tell the stalker in a very loud voice to stop following you and go and do his own work. (Pichha mat karo, jao yahan se, apna kaam karo)

Prepared with this advice, I thought I was ready to tackle any psycho that ever stalked me again, but...................

Day 2 - I was walking down the office complex path that leads to my office building when I heard a voice behind me saying, "Namaste Madam". At first I thought someone from my office was greeting me. Turning around, I realised that it was the same 'stalker'. His complexion was wheatish while his features were typical of natives of western Uttar Pradesh. He was wearing an over used T-shirt, grey pants and sneakers.

The 'stalker' continued to closely shadow me. I felt an icy cold chill run down my spine. I'd often read in mystery novels about this 'chill' but never experienced it first hand. It was as cold as fingers get after dipping them in 'Kulfi' on a frosty January morning. He kept mumbling something in a local dialect which I just could not pick up. I was shit scared and shivered even though it was 40 C around me. I looked around for a crowd...people...anyone. Cars kept speeding by, honking loudly.

I prayed for strenght. As, I reached a group of office goers ahead, I suddenly found myself yelling at the 'stalker'. I have never yelled at anyone in such a loud voice before. Everyone turned to stare. I kept yelling, telling everyone how this person was following and harassing me. (Picha mat karo, Bhaiya Babuji dekhiye, yeh humare pichcha kar raha hain, humein tang kar raha hain) Everyone glared at the stalker who turned away and took off.

I have not seen the 'stalker' again, till date. Thank God !

I discussed this issue with my friends and came up these points which every woman should know about.

- Psychos or Stalkers feed on fear. Their main aim is to get you frozen scared, so that you won't be able to do anything when they finally misbehave or attack you.

- Psychos or Stalkers select the most vulnerable person. It does not matter if you are 12 or 80 years or whether you are wearing salwar khameez or jeans. They go for someone with an innocent face who looks like they can be easily bullied. A person who does not protest or create a scene.

- Never Attack First - Don't slap, use pepper spray or kick the Psycho Stalker in the balls before he makes a physical move at you first. This would make you the villain and give him an excuse to touch you. However, if you are in a lonely area and are cornered, then you should attack first and run away. Remember, men are physically stronger than women and can easily overpower you, so don't stick around to watch if he recovers.

- Don't Use Insults or Swear Words - This makes the Psycho Stalker even more determined to get you one day. Also, passersby are less likely to help you if you are rude. Speak loudly, use general language and tell the psycho to go away in front of everybody.

- Keep an expressionless, unbothered look on your face and try to get to a crowded area where you can make a scene. Don't be embarrassed - the embarrassment is all his to bear and he should be ashamed of himself.

So, have you ever dealt with a psycho before ? How was the experience ? Do you have any tips to add ?

The Train - Movie Review

The Train - Movie Review

Yesterday, I watched 'The Train' starring Emraan Hashmi and two new 'shady' kind of actresses - Sayali Bhagat and Geeta Basra. Like all Emraan Hashmi films, this film too was an extra-marital affair thriller.

The Train - 5/10. This movie was not as bad as I expected. It is an ok timepass movie. However, the story seems quite common and I managed to guess the ending quite easily. I have also heard that the movie is a copy of the Hollywood film, 'Derailed' that stars Jennifer Anniston.

Vishal (Hashmi) is a married man with a sick daughter. He is going through a bad phase at work (client at his ad agency is not satisfied) and at home (wife yells at him). While taking the train to work he meets a sexy married lady called Roma. He falls for her. They both go to a local hotel to 'make out'. While 'doing it', a burglar enters their room - robs them, beats up Hashmi and rapes Roma.

The burglar knows about their extra marital affair and starts blackmailing them. He finishes off Vishal's idiot friend who tries to kill him. Vishal ends up having to pay the burglar one million in cash. Later on, Vishal feels guilty and confesses everything to his wife.

Vishal goes back to the shady hotel where he had met the burglar. There he learns that Roma was in cahoots with the burglar all the while and they are in the process of conning another guy just like him. He interferes and there is a lot of gunfire. Everyone is killed and Vishal escapes with the money he had given to the blackmailer. All ends well.

The songs are good, especially 'Woh Ajnabi'. Acting is very mediocre, but hey, you can't really expect much from an Emraan Hashmi starrer, except for a lot of kissing scenes. So, did you catch this flick ? What do you think of Emraan Hashmi ?

Google Adsense Really Works and Pays

Google Adsense Really Works and Pays - Eventually

I had started using Google Adsense around March of last year. The going was quite slow at first. However, around December of 2006, I got quite a few visitors - some of which translated into clicks.

I made my first US $100 at the end of March 2007 (a year later). It took around 730 clicks to get there. I waited for the cheque but it did'nt come. Then I realised that I need to apply for a Google PIN Number. The PIN Number arrived at the end of April. It had been thrown by my postman in the parking area outside my apartment building, like all my other letters.

I entered the Google PIN, removed all holds and waited for my cheque. Around the end of May, I checked my Google Adsense Account and found out that the cheque had been sent. I buzzed my friends to pick up the cheque and pass it on to me if they see it lying around anywhere.

I finally recieved the cheque in June. Google Cheques are payable at par at all Citibank branches in India. The cheque was lying on the stairs of my building. It had arrived from a Google Office in Singapore and included my Adsense Earnings till May. This was a little more than the US $ 100 that I had expected. However, as the value of the Indian Rupee had increased, I only got Rs. 40 for every dollar.

At first, I was quite skeptical about using Google Adsense, especially on a personal blog that has bits of my life in it. I've never asked people to click my Ads, because I'm too scared of getting caught. I never imagined that I'd have numerous strangers reading my blog from around the world who would actually be interested in the ads.

Fortunately, I was lucky. You can actually get money from Google Adsense by being honest. Neither, do you have to own a spam website. I got a cheque just by sharing my thoughts on my personal blog. Do you use or plan to use Google Adsense on your website ? It could prove to be an added source of income!

Movie Review - Pirates of the Caribbean 3 - At Worlds End

Pirates of the Caribbean 3 - At World's End

Yesterday, I went to watch the third installment of Pirates of the Caribbean at Satyam Cineplex in Patel Nagar, New Delhi. It surprised me to see the movie hall half empty on the first weekend. Here is my review of the film -

film review pirates of the caribbean movie synopsis potc 3 the worlds end carribeanPirates of the Caribbean 3- At Worlds End - 6/10 - This movie was good but not as good as the other two. I had to keep explaining parts of the movie to my friends as the storyline was quite confusing and unclear. Johnny Depp's role was not very big and he had'nt been given funny dialogues like last time. Most of the film has been taken up by Keira Knightly, Captain Barbosa and Calypso which was real boring. Another thing was the CGI action sequences. They were good, but I'd rather watch some real sword fights, duels and stunts in natural surroundings (tropical forests or beaches) like the previous Pirates of the Caribbean movies. I've had too much of CGI fights - they all seem the same and go on for ages. Other than that, I liked the shooting locales and the romance of the lores and myths of the sea. This film is darker and more gruesome than the others.

Here is the story of Pirates of the Caribbean 3 (POTC) - At World's End

After getting the heart of Davy Jones in the previous POTC movie, the British East India Company starts clamping down on pirates. Davy Jones and his ship ' The Flying Dutchman' are forced to work for the East India Company and help them nab other pirates through treachery. Everyone who has helped a pirates, even kids, are hung to death.

Bill Turner (Orlando Blooom) makes a deal with the company to secure the Black Pearl for them in return for the freedom of his father who is becoming a part of the 'Flying Dutchman'. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightly) and Captain Barbossa go to seek the help of some Chinese pirates to rescue Jack Sparrow from 'The World's End'. They believe that he is the only one who can save them from the might of the East India Company.

film review pirates of the caribbean movie synopsis potc 3 the worlds end carribeanJack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is with the 'Black Pearl' ship at the 'World's End' which is a sandy desert area . He is hallucinating with many copies of himself. He finally makes it back to the sea with the help of some crabs who push his ship to the ocean's edge. There he meets up with the others who went over the 'World's End' waterfall to rescue him.

There is a convention of nine groups of pirates at Shipwreck Island where plans on how to fight the East India Company will be drawn. Barbosa, Sparrow and the Chinese pirate are three of the nine, so they all head to Shipwreck Island. However, there is a traitor amongst thier midst. The chinky pirate is betrayed and makes Keira Knightly the captain of his ship before dying. When they meet up at the convention, they have to decide to either release Calypso (the goddess of the sea who is bound in human form) or fight. They end up doing both. Here Keith Richards (the guitarist of Rolling Stones) puts in a short appearance as Captain Jack Sparrow's father.

film review pirates of the caribbean movie synopsis potc 3 the worlds end carribeanElizabeth Swann is elected King of the Pirates by Jack Sparrow. Lots of betrayals and treachery takes place and the CGI storm and whirlpool action sequence begins. Somewhere in the middle of the fight, Bill Turner and Elizabeth Swann are married by Captain Barbossa. Jack Sparrow steals Davy Jones heart from the guards of the East India Company. Bill Turner stabs the heart of Davy Jones and becomes the captain of the Flying Dutchman. Together, the crew of the Flying Dutchman and the Black Pearl shoot down the ship of the East India Company and win the battle.

The funniest part of the movie - When the turbaned Sardarji pirate (one of the nine captains at the convention) starts yelling in an unsuitably high pitched voice. That drew whistles from the crowd. It was also a factual error - Most Sardarjis in India (Sikhs) are located in the state of Punjab which is a landlocked area far away from the ocean. It is impossible to believe that a Sardarji could ever be a pirate or drive a ship....ha ha ha!

There is plenty of scope to make a Pirates of the Caribbean 4 movie as the movie ends with all of them going in search of the 'Fountain of Life'. All in all, it was a fun popcorn movie. I'd recommend it for folks looking for a fun weekend.

Anyone who had trouble understanding parts of the script are free to ask me ! If Pirates of the Caribbean were to be remade in Hindi by me, I would cast Salman Khan as Jack Sparrow, Esha Deol as Elizabeth Swann and Akshaye Khanna as Bill Turner. What about you - any choices ? Have you seen this movie ?
